Whilst a traditional water-based polish using shoe wax requires a great deal of practice and patience, achieving the perfect mirror-like shine is almost child’s play with Burgol Super Gloss. This colourless special polish has been developed for the final high-gloss polish on smooth leather and ensures a professional finish on shoe toes and heel caps.
What is the water-based shine polish with Super Gloss?
With water-based shine polishing, also known as ‘spit shine’, wafer-thin layers are built up using water and a special polish, which reflect the light. Unlike standard care using Burgol shoe cream and Burgol shoe wax, Super Gloss is not intended for maintenance, but solely for creating a mirror-like shine. Ideal for anyone who wants that little bit extra from their smooth leather shoes.

Thanks to its particularly fine, lint-free texture, it applies the polish evenly and prevents scratches in the high-gloss finish. We recommend using a horsehair brush for the initial preparation.

Application: 3 steps to a mirror shine
1. Preparation: The basis for a mirror shine is perfectly cared-for smooth leather shoes. Clean the shoes thoroughly and condition the leather as usual with Burgol shoe cream, followed by Burgol shoe wax. A mirror shine can only be achieved on a smooth, well-maintained surface.
2. Application: Apply Burgol Super Gloss very thinly to the less flexible leather areas using the Super Gloss polishing cloth. Only the toe caps and heel caps are suitable. Avoid flexible areas such as the instep, as the gloss layer would crack there.
3. Polishing to a high shine: Dab a few drops of water onto the polishing cloth and polish the applied layer to a high shine using small, circular movements and light pressure. Repeat the process 3–4 times until the face of your watch is reflected in the toe of the shoe.
Tip from the cobbler’s trade: Less is more. Several wafer-thin layers produce a deeper shine than a single thick layer.

Frequently asked questions about Burgol Super Gloss
Which shoes is Super Gloss suitable for?
Burgol Super Gloss is suitable exclusively for smooth leather. It does not work on suede, nubuck, velour leather or trainers made from textile or synthetic leather. For nubuck and velour leather, please use our special suede products.
What is the difference between shoe wax and Super Gloss?
Shoe wax protects and conditions the leather and creates a beautiful shine. Super Gloss is not a care product, but a pure high-gloss polish for that final mirror-like finish. It should always be applied AFTER shoe cream and shoe wax.
Can I use ordinary cotton cloths?
We strongly recommend our Super Gloss polishing cloth. Ordinary cloths shed fibres and have a texture that is too coarse, which can cause the mirror-like shine to become cloudy.
